WATER WAYS: HEALING THE CIRCLE OF WATER AND LIFE

March 26th - May 16th

"Dynamic Reciprocity"

Water, vegetation and climate exist in a fascinating and interconnected system where each component cooperates to create a life supporting sustaining cycle. Vegetation takes up liquid water from soil via roots and releases water vapor into the air through leaf pores. Vegetation acts as a catalyst for the Water Cycle across the earth’s climate, first, by regulating atmospheric moisture and, second, by creating balanced conditions for water storage in the soil. This piece addresses the remarkable native intelligence and the durability of this working relationship.

In addition. this art work combines the use of paper with block quilting to pay homage to the fundamental necessity of water to human life. The origins of paper lie in nature itself. Early Chinese paper makers harvested fibers from bark, hemp, mulberry and bamboo, for example, and, after soaking in water, created pulp from which sheets of paper were formed. In Dynamic Reciprocity, the imagery of water and vegetation are juxtaposed in non-repeating block-quilt squares which are combined to make the whole of the piece.

Thirteen Years of Paper Art Quilting!

It was the summer of 2008 when I began my journey with the art of quilting with paper. Thirteen years later this posting is a 'look back' at some of my favorite pieces, presented in no particular order. These pieces have been sold, donated or have otherwise found a home.
